Sleepy Hollow and Dr. Jeckyl and Mr. Hyde

These are my latest drawings for the 4th and 5th paintings of my thesis. I got a lot of crap from my instructor for both of these. In the Sleepy Hollow piece he said that the horse needed to be included because it was the HEADLESS HORSEMAN but you know what, I would still like to think that the artist has a little bit of freedom and I imagine that sometimes the damn headless horseman dismounts his horse and creeps around his tree for a while...JEEZZ! He also gave me crap for the Jeckyl and Hyde because the evil monster mask has horns but to me it was just a symbol and not the literal head on his shoulders, plus I think horns are cool!! He also thinks that the hat looks like a cowboy hat....sorry but I don't think it does! Well sorry for rambling on...Let me know what YOU guys think, your input would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah i guess the hat does have a bit of a "western" feel to it but i dont think its a problem at all. If anything what bothers me the most is that its cropped off the side of the composition i'd try to contain it within the frame just to put emphasis on the symetry you've got going. Other than that keep em coming!

I think your a big boy and should trust your own judgement, especially when concerning those silly comments. I do question the composition of the jeckyl piece, should it be cropped like the left?

You guys are totally right and it's funny because when I woke up this morning and thought about it I knew I had to center the composition more not to crop it. Thank you guys for your comments just reinforce my intuition. When I transfer the drawing to the piece of masonite I will make sure to make the necessary corrections. I do trust my judment Jake and I know that when the painting is done I will be proud of all these pieces, hopefully you guys will feel the same.

Both are strong and you know it!
I do think you keep the jekyll and hyde piece should be kept symmetrycal, and leave the assymetry up to the tubes and glass bottles...trick the eye yaknow...did any of that make sense

in a Parkish sort of way...I just transfered the drawing and it WILL be simetrical, I just want to have fun with paint...I know you guys can relate.

hey, to admit these aren't my favorite of bunch but the idea of no being so liternal is great and needed in both. Esspecially the jeckyl, it almost needs horn to differ cause of how many times it been done over the years. Also, thanks for the comment on the color, i need to back to my traditional roots and pull out them watercolors.

Carlos,
Thanks for the comments on my blog....your talents are boundless, and I am always impressed with what I find on your blog.
Any plans on comin' back to A.G.?
Also, I really like the two new pencils on your blog. I might agree with the comment about putting in some sort of hint of a horse in the Headless Horseman piece. Nothing is cooler than when I see an illustration that clearly conveys the literary work it is based on without cliche' imagery.
(one example: if you were to see the full body of the horseman, you might notice he has rider's spurs on his boots. This would state what he is to me without the obvious inclusion of the horse)
